In New York, patients can self-refer to physical therapy.  You do not need to obtain a prescription first to receive treatment for 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes sooner.  However, some insurances, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Medicaid will not cover reimbursement for self-referrals; however, private insurance companies will cover reimbursement.  Please check with your insurance provider in advance.
